E-O, E-O, E-O....
Sis-
I was still just starting out learning about the giants of classic rock by listening to the Loop when you got what was probably your third Police album. Now the Police are clearly seen as maintream Rock, somewhere on the U2 and XTC branch, but I wasn't hearing them on the radio back then- they were to new. But you had someone bought your stereo system and a CD player and there they were. I remember you getting Synchronicity and listeing to it a lot. I didn't apprecaite it then, nor did I at the age of 9 really understand what you and your freinds found so amazing about "Roxanne."
But as I may have told you over the years, "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" remains not just one of my favorite Police songs, it remains one of my favorite sons ever. It's all based on a demo Sting made, where he had the base and keyboard tracks, both synth and piano in place. Recording it from scratch didn't improve anything, so Sting let Andy Summers add those elegant arpeggiated guitar rifs and a stunning drum track from Stewart Copeland, and that was it. Which means that you had this awesome studio track that the band played live in a way that matched the energy of the song but not the layers of melody.
And that was the Police themselves. Other bands try to perfrom this song and either wreck it or get wrecked. But this cover by the Lexington Lab Band does a great job on keeping the many layers balanced and intact. It takes eight of them to make all that music that Sting created happen in real time, but I have to tell you, they do a great job.
